EraMafra Group will stop publishing the print edition of Lidové noviny (LN) at the end of August. The Lidovka.cz news website will remain and its content will be expanded, especially opinion articles. From September, the Saturday LN supplement “Orientace” will become part of the Mladá fronta DNES daily newspaper. The publishing house informed about this in a press release.
Lidové noviny is one of the most famous Czech newspapers, first published on December 16, 1893 in Brno. They probably had their most famous era during the First Czechoslovak Republic, when editors included famous Czech writers including Karel and Jozef Čapkova or Edward Bass, who later became their editor-in-chief. In 1989, the renewed LN became one of the symbols of the Velvet Revolution.
