Ramon Jesuren, President of the Colombian Football Federation.
Colombian Football Federation president Ramón Jesurun was arrested in Miami, United States, during an incident during Sunday’s Copa America final, according to a police report released on Monday.
Miami-Dade County (Florida) police files show that Jesurun was arrested on charges of “assault on a police officer/employee.”
The Copa America final at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday night was marked by public revenue chaos as Argentina beat Colombia 1-0 thanks to Lautaro Martinez’s extra-time goal.
According to videos broadcast on social networks, bullfighting, people being thrown to the ground and even some people trying to enter through the stadium’s air-conditioning ducts caused the game to be delayed for 80 minutes.
The incident occurred after Ramón Jesurun, 71, was barred from entering the medal ceremony at the end of the competition with his son and other family members, according to Colombian newspaper El Tiempo.
The leader’s sons may come into conflict with venue security guards who deny them entry.
The newspaper explained that Jesuren, who is also the vice president of CONMEBOL, was also involved in the dispute before the police intervened.
