Chiwenga’s coup aide dies under mysterious circumstances – ZimEye

Political reporter– Retired Brigadier General Michael Chaminuka, a former personal assistant to Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, has died under mysterious circumstances.

Chaminuka, 62, died in Harare after a brief illness.

Brigadier General Chaminuka served as Chiwenga’s personal staff officer during his tenure as commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.

He was a key figure in the November 2017 coup that overthrew the late President Robert Mugabe, which was led by Chiwenga himself.

Since the coup, many of Chiwenga’s close allies who were involved in the overthrow of Mugabe and the subsequent rise to power of Emmerson Mnangagwa have met with unexpected and suspicious deaths.

These included Generals Sibusiso Moyo and Perence Hiri, both of whom played key roles in the coup.

Michelle Chaminuka, the late veteran’s daughter, confirmed that Brigadier General Chaminuka died at the Harare Trauma Centre at around 7pm on Saturday.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian, and five children (two sons and three daughters).

Mourners are currently gathering at the family residence at 353 Valyonga Close, Glen Lorne, Harare. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

As the mysterious deaths of Chiwenga’s allies continue to attract attention, many have begun to wonder what dark forces exist in Zimbabwean politics.
