U.S. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida has been told he will not be the running mate for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, sources told Reuters on Monday.
Trump is expected to formally announce his vice presidential pick later on Monday (Tuesday New Zealand time), and his advisers see Rubio’s residence in Florida as a disadvantage.
The U.S. Constitution prohibits electors, who formally choose the president and vice president, from voting for their home states, and both Trump and Rubio call Florida their home state.
