When the HTSI celebrations began this January, we hoped to be the first to wish Giorgio Armani and company a happy 50th birthday. Instead, he cleverly reversed the roles. He took up pen and paper and wrote us happy birthday in celebration of our 10th wedding anniversary.
However, now that July 11 has arrived, the day he was born in Piacenza, it is time to celebrate this important birthday. We do so in homage to words, images, and the many shared ideas: the time and care King George has given us over the years, and the time and care he has invested in each of our private meetings, because, as he told us in a recent interview, “The beauty of the printed page is the flow of ideas that is produced. In a newspaper, you can’t be hasty or superficial. It requires care and quality.”
“I am a person who works hard all the time, in order, disciplined and never stops. That is why I admire the work and abilities of others. Because work is pride, joy and confidence.” It was 2014, the first issue of the Italian edition HTSIWhat better travel companion is there than the Made in Italy logo?
In 2015, Giorgio Armani became the special ambassador of Expo 2015, an event that coincided with the fortieth anniversary of the fashion house. He decided to celebrate the occasion by investing 50 million euros and building a huge project, “The Silo”.
Wearing sneakers, a yellow accident helmet and blue overalls, he climbs onto a lifting platform to inspect the ceiling system on a construction site. King George, surrounded by aluminum scaffolding, smiles and looks out from the red safety bars: this is the cover photo of HTSI. Spontaneous and revolutionary.
