The president of the Puerto Rico Association of Mayors, Luis Javier Hernández, announced the return of the city of Mayagüez to the organization from which it had previously dissociated.
“As part of our physical transformation, we will continue to work together for the benefit of communities across Puerto Rico. I thank Mayaguez Interim Mayor Jorge Ramos Ruiz, an outstanding engineer and administrator, whose presence and contributions strengthen the Puerto Rico Association of Mayors,” Hernandez Ortiz said in a written statement.
Ramos Ruiz noted, “At the Mayaguez City Government, we are well aware of the enormous challenges facing local government and the urgent need for mayors to join forces to advance pending municipal agendas. Therefore, as Mayor of this great city, I have decided to return Mayaguez to the Puerto Rico Association of Mayors to work together to achieve common goals for the benefit of our city and our fellow citizens.”
Currently, the majority of municipalities (forty-one (41)) are governed by mayors from the Popular Democratic Party (PPD), which is affiliated with the Puerto Rico Association of Mayors.
Specifically, the PPD will celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the signing of the Puerto Rican Constitution (ELA).
As part of the meeting, Peñulas Mayor Gregory González Suchet reported that his municipality would welcome all Puerto Ricans to official events.
The official event begins at 5:00 pm with a special message from the President of La Paz, Jesus Manuel Ortiz, who will explain the importance of defending the Constitution, a message signed by people of different political ideologies who share a common goal.
In addition, musical and artistic events, artisans and kiosks have been identified for the Peñola Public Square, with the participation of Manny Manuel and his Orchestra and the Barreto El Show.
