Dutch politicians have reacted to the attempted assassination of US presidential candidate Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, with Prime Minister Dick Schauf saying he was “shocked” by the attack.
“It is a relief that his injuries do not appear to be serious. I wish him a speedy recovery and send my best wishes to him and his family,” Schuff said on social media. “Political violence is completely unacceptable.”
Far-right Freedom Party leader Geert Wilders accused the media and left-wing politicians of spreading hatred against right-wing politicians at home and abroad.
“The hatred towards right-wing politicians in our country is also unprecedented. If necessary, their security measures should be significantly strengthened,” he said. Wilders has lived under tight security for years because he was threatened by Islamist militants.
