The Guam Legislature Republican Caucus released its own statement, writing, “The horrific incident today in Butler, Pennsylvania, directed at President Donald J. Trump, which resulted in serious injuries to two spectators and the tragic loss of an innocent life, has no place in our democracy and form of government as it governs our country. Our citizens should not be afraid or intimidated from sharing their views or ideas on how their government can best respond and be accountable to their community, and while there may be situations of disagreement or differences of opinion, resorting to violence never leads to a favorable outcome. Political rallies such as those in Butler are undoubtedly highly charged and emotional. Political parties and campaigns host these events to gain support and attract supporters. While participation in rallies is generally not restricted, there is an expectation that attendance and participation is cordial and respectful. The shooting in Butler was a reprehensible act of cowardice and a disgrace to the actions that members of our community appear to have taken in order to express their opposition or disgust with a candidate, a political party, or the will of our country. We pray for a speedy recovery for President Trump and the two injured spectators, but most importantly, we offer our condolences, thoughts, and prayers to the family of the victim, who lost his life while exercising his right to support the ideals and a candidate for President.”
