Five persons, including two Rwandan nationals, have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 64-year-old retired primary school teacher in Kisoro.
The suspects have been identified as Peter Ndagijimana 20, a resident of Karumena Cell in Kisoro Central District, Isaac Nkurikiyimana 27, a butcher, Angela Utuze 22, a waiter at Rwanda Bar and a resident of Kekubo Karumena Ward in the Northern District, Angela Muhawemana 20, a waiter and resident of Gishera Nyagashinge Ward in Rwanda Bar North District and William Nzamoye 28, a Boda Boda rider.
The suspects are accused of killing Joy Niramukhisha, a retired primary school teacher who lived in Kamoni cell, Kamoni area, Kisoro North District. The deceased was killed by unknown assailants at her residence on the night of June 26, 2024. Her body was found locked in a room of the boys’ hostel.
Kigezi district police spokesperson Elly Maate said the suspects confessed to the crime and revealed their motive was to steal the 16 million Ugandan shillings that the victims received from the sale of their land.
“We recovered some stolen items including a TV, remote control and decoder from the suspect,” Matt said.
Matt said that after the investigation is completed, the suspect will be summoned to court to answer accordingly to the charges.
