JAKARTA (ANTARA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) admitted in a speech in Pennsylvania on Saturday (July 13) local time that he was shocked and saddened by the shooting of former US President Donald Trump.

Jokowi stressed that all acts of violence are contrary to the democratic values upheld by people around the world.
The Indonesian head of state then expressed hope for the recovery of Trump, who will participate in the 2024 US presidential election to be held in November and seek re-election.
“I hope he recovers soon and I pray for everyone affected by this incident,” he said.
According to local media reports, Trump was giving a speech at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania when gunfire rang out, forcing him to stop his speech and leave the podium bleeding.
Trump was only a few minutes into his speech to supporters in Butler City on Saturday (July 13) when the former US president suddenly stopped talking about illegal immigration.
Following the incident, Trump’s spokesman, John F. Chang, assured that the former US president was “in good condition,” adding that Trump was receiving treatment at a local medical facility.
The FBI identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as a suspect in the attempted assassination, in a statement released Sunday.
