The investigation into the plane crash will be conducted by the Interstate Aviation Commission (IAC) and the Federal Air Transport Administration.

The plane belonged to Gazprom Avia. On the day of the crash, according to the preliminary version of the Investigative Committee, the plane was heading to Vnukovo Airport after repairs at the factory. According to the operating department, the cause of the crash may have been an engine failure.

After the crash, information appeared on the Internet that the crashed plane was a Sukhoi Superjet 100NEW-95, a new imported superjet model. However, this news was denied by the press office of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Witnesses said the plane crashed near the villages of Apraksino and Kudriavtsevo. The plane dropped sharply over the forest and then exploded, with thick smoke rising above the crash site.
