According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck Guam at 7:27 p.m. Thursday. Residents felt the tremor. The USGS said the quake was located approximately 74.5 miles south-southwest of Maleso and had a focal depth of approximately 6.2 miles. “According to the advice of the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, this earthquake does not pose a tsunami threat to the Mariana Islands. The earthquake did not cause significant damage or casualties,” the Guam Office of Homeland Security and Civil Defense said in a statement. The office reminded the community that when an earthquake occurs, the earthquake procedure of “duck, cover and hold on” should be followed until the shaking stops.
