Waagacusub.net – Kenyan Ambassador to Somalia Lucas Tumbo arrived in the Somali capital Mogadishu today, just a week after the two countries agreed to restore diplomatic relations.

According to Kenyan Foreign Ministry officials, Tumbo and other diplomats returned to Kenya for the first time after a seven-month diplomatic dispute with the Kenyan government.

Tumbo was expelled from Somalia in November last year after the country accused its neighbor of interfering in the electoral process in Jubaland, one of Somalia’s five semi-autonomous states.

Kenya rejected the charges and an investigative panel set up by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (Igad) returned a “not guilty” verdict, but Somalia refused to accept the ruling.

Kenya has recently reopened flights that had been suspended over Somalia’s airspace.

Kenya has suspended flights from Somalia for nearly a month due to cooling relations between the two countries.

Kenya and Somalia are now on a path to fully restore their severed ties.

Somalia urged Kenya to reopen its embassy in Mogadishu and pledged to reopen its embassy in Nairobi in response.
