The Northwest Territories police and event managers of the Elds in Húnaväku and Húnaþing have joined forces to take measures to curb underage drinking. The police actively monitor the alcohol legislation on these two holidays, as it is clearly stated that people under the age of 20 on their birthday may not give alcohol to anyone. In addition, people under the age of 20 are not allowed to drink alcohol.

If police become aware of this, they are expected to dump all alcohol and, if the person is under 18, report the matter to child protection and speak to the parents. Police are advising all festival organisers to join them and work with them.

They are also looking for volunteers for parent walks during the holidays, 1-2 hours in the evening. Interested parents should contact the Police Prevention Officer, aya01@logreglan.is.
