The State Secretariat for Equality, in partnership with UN Women and the Equality Institute (EQI), organized a two-day workshop focused on strengthening the monitoring of progress in the National Action Plan to Combat Gender-Based Violence (PAN-GBV). The event, held on July 9-10 at Timor Plaza, brought together representatives from various sectors, including ministerial officials, municipalities, civil society organizations and development partners. 
The opening ceremony was hosted by Secretary of State for Equality Elvina Sousa Carvalho, accompanied by UN Women’s Country Director in Timor-Leste Amy Nishta Satyam and Sian Warner, Research and Partnership Manager at the Equality Institute. The event was also supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency through the joint programme “Together for Equality”. 
During the workshop, clear objectives were set to strengthen the reporting and monitoring capacity of PAN-VBG, aligned with the structure of the Public Policy Monitoring and Evaluation Framework. Responsibilities for data collection were discussed and a transparent process for communicating these data to the National Secretariat for Equality was established, with the aim of continuously improving the implementation of this important national plan. 
The Secretary of State stressed the relevance of this workshop in adapting and improving the strategy and the “important role” of each institution, adding that “each institution has its own responsibilities, especially in terms of access to justice, monitoring and defending” the plan and “each party must work together in order to meet our requirements on how to prevent and eliminate any type of gender-based violence in our country”.
The event was attended by representatives of 17 ministries from all municipalities, as well as civil society organizations and development partners, all committed to collaborating to build stronger and more effective monitoring systems to combat gender-based violence.
