JAKARTA (ANTARA) – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed hope that new Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schauf will take the established partnership between Indonesia and the Netherlands to a new level.
“Congratulations to Dick Schoolf on his appointment as Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. I look forward to deepening the strong and enduring partnership between our two countries,” Jokowi wrote on his X account @jokowi on Monday.
Willemus Maria “Dick” Skov is a Dutch civil servant and politician who successfully served as the Prime Minister of the Netherlands after being nominated during the formation of the Dutch Cabinet for 2023-2024.
Former Director General of Intelligence and Security Joseph Schoof will replace the outgoing Mark Rutte as the new Director General of the Netherlands. On July 2, 2024, Joseph Schoof was sworn in by King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands.
Indonesia and the Netherlands have been working to strengthen bilateral relations through leaders’ talks.
Last September 9, President Joko Widodo and former Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte discussed ASEAN-Netherlands partnership in the development and economic fields during a bilateral meeting during the G20 India Summit.
The Indonesian President took the opportunity to express optimism that the Netherlands will support Indonesia’s enthusiasm for developing low-carbon technologies, and hoped that the Netherlands could assist Indonesia in dealing with the EU’s Deforestation Regulation.
Jokowi then praised the Netherlands for investing funds to establish a center of excellence in Solo, Central Java.
He also made full use of the meeting to seek Rutte’s support for Indonesia’s joining the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
The President stressed that Indonesia has taken various measures to reform its economy to meet OECD standards.
