On 11 November 2021, the Auditor-General, Ms Lara Taylor-Pearce, and her deputy, Tamba Momoh, were suspended indefinitely.
President Dr Julius Maada Bio set up a special tribunal to investigate their “whether they performed professionally”.
On November 17, 2021, after consultation with the Judicial and Legal Services Commission, President Bio appointed the Honourable Justice Nyawo Finda Jones as the Chairperson of the Special Court to โinvestigate the misconduct and lack of professional conduct of the Auditor General, Ms. Lara Taylor-Pearce, and the Deputy Auditor General, Tamba Momoh, while serving as the Auditor General and Deputy Auditor General of the Sierra Leone Audit Officeโ.
On June 12, 2024, President Bio received a report from the Chairman of the Special Tribunal he established to investigate the suspended Auditor General and Deputy Auditor General.
A press release from the State Legislative Assembly yesterday stated:
โAfter reviewing the report, the public is hereby informed that His Excellency the President has accepted all the recommendations of the report, which includes the removal of the suspended Auditor General and Deputy Auditor General.
Therefore, pursuant to section 137(7)(a) of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, the President directs as follows:
i. The Attorney General and the Minister of Justice initiate the necessary procedures to remove the suspended Auditor General, Ms. Lara Taylor-Pearce, pursuant to Section 137(7)(b) of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone.
ii. The Audit Services Commission has taken action to remove the suspended Deputy Auditor General, Mr Tamba Momoh
