Statistics from the Ministry of the Interior on the number of traffic accidents by accident type in 2023 show that hit-and-run accidents were the most common type of accident, with a total of about 3,079 crashes recorded in the year, while there were 835 rollover accidents across the country, killing 352 people.
The statistics divide accidents into four categories. Abu Dhabi saw 1,358 traffic accidents last year, including 961 hit-and-run accidents, 238 rollover accidents, 149 aggravated accidents and 10 other accidents, while Dubai saw 10 traffic accidents during the same period. A total of 2,176 traffic accidents occurred during the period, including 1,569 hit-and-run accidents, 240 aggravated accidents, 366 run-over accidents and 1 other accident.
