BANJA LUKA – The World Rafting Championship, with the participation of more than 60 teams from 20 countries, officially opened at the football stadium in the Banja Luka village of Krupana Vrbas.

The World Championships were opened by Republika Srpska Minister of Trade and Tourism Denis Sulić on behalf of the President of Republika Srpska.

The Rafting Club of Republika Srpska “Kanjon” said that this is the third time that Banja Luka has hosted such an important event, and the competition on the Vrbas River will give the world the opportunity to see the great potential of rafting in Republika Srpska. Competitors at the World Rafting Championships will test their abilities on the banks of the Vrbas River over the next five days.

Sprint and “head-to-head” races will take place on the Bijeli buk track, slalom in the Tijesno gorge and downhill from Krupa to Karanovac.

Tomorrow, the first day of competition, there will be a sprint race on the program.

The President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik said tonight ahead of the opening of the World Rafting Championships in Banja Luka that the wonderful photos that Republika Srpska has will be sent to the world through this event.

“I’m looking forward to the pictures we will send, and the wonderful atmosphere we see. Krupa in Vrbas, when I see it now and remember it more than 20 years ago, it’s a completely different place,” Dodik told reporters.

Dodik noted that Banjaluka is a peaceful city with no violence. “This is positive for everyone who comes here and I look forward to their arrival,” Dodik said.

He congratulated everyone involved in the organization in any way, especially the tournament’s director, Aleksandar Pastir, and recalled how it all began.

“We all looked at him blankly, we didn’t understand what he was saying. When we started, we managed to finish the tracks, prepare everything. I remember the first opening,” Dodik said.

He stressed that this was a welcome continuity.

“I hope Shepherd will always have this passion and while we are here, I believe we will win at least five titles,” Dodik said.
