According to the school principal, Matida Sanneh, the unfortunate incident left 35 students forced to sleep in the mosque.

The cause of the fire could not be determined at the time of collecting reports.

Victims said food, clothing and part of the tuition fees paid by students had been lost.

In an interview with our reporter, Ms. Sanneh described the fire as a “tragedy” and said that the fire left many students homeless. “It was a painful experience because all our belongings were destroyed by the fire.”

Recounting how the fire broke out, Sanne said: “I went out to do some errands. However, when I returned home, I saw smoke coming out of the apartment and children running around. Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire.”

She went on to say that the fire was so large, adding: “That’s why it was so difficult to control and the whole building was burned down. We contacted fire and rescue crews but they were unable to control the fire.”

“The fire destroyed everything we had including clothes, food, 50 beds for students and an unknown amount of tuition fees paid by students. I also lost some money in the fire,” she claimed.

She revealed that when the fire broke out, all the students were reciting the Quran in the mosque and the others had gone to the town.

Matilda called on the government, philanthropists, individuals and organizations to lend a helping hand, saying: “We are in urgent need of help from all walks of life. Most of the children in the school are orphans.”

She finally thanked local residents for their prompt response to the fire incident.
