The Royal Court issued the following statement today: We have received the following statement from the Supreme Court: The Crescent Chamber of the Supreme Court held a meeting this evening, Thursday, the 29th day of Ramadan – which according to the Umm al-Qura calendar – corresponds to April 20, 2023 AD. Taking into account the reports regarding the phenomenon of the crescent of Shawwal in this year 1444 AH, and after examining, reviewing and pondering all the reports, and taking into account what is contained in the Supreme Court judgment dated (168/AH) that Thursday, 29 August 1444 AH, 1 September 1444 AH, corresponding to 23 March 2023 AD, marks the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan 1444 AH, as many reliable eyewitnesses have witnessed the sighting of the crescent of Shawwal tonight, based on which, when it was confirmed that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: “Fast when it is seen and break the fast when it is seen,” agreed thereto, the Ministry has decided that tomorrow, Friday, 1 October 1444 AH – according to the Umm Qura calendar – corresponding to 21 April 2023 AD, marks the Eid al-Fitr in this year 1444 AH.
The Supreme Court congratulated the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Her Royal Highness the Trustworthy Crown Prince (may Allah protect her), and all citizens, residents and Muslims on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, and requested Allah Almighty to accept the fasting and prayers of Muslims, as well as all their good deeds, and reconcile the relations between them, support his religion, exalt his Word, and maintain the security, stability and prosperity of this country. Indeed, glory be to Him, He is the Hearer, the Closer and the Answerer, and may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family and companions.
