Charles Frisbie, mine action adviser at the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), warned that the scourge of mines planted by the Houthi militias poses a threat to the lives of Yemenis, and called on the international community to provide the necessary support to the Yemeni people to eliminate them and restore life to all areas of the country.
“Everyone must stand with Yemen, which is suffering from a real catastrophe of mines, explosive devices and remnants of war,” Frisby said during a visit to the Saudi Masam project headquarters in Marib. “The Yemeni people need to get rid of them and restore life in all parts of the country.”
During the visit, the Humanitarian Adviser heard an explanation from the head of the Massam operation in Marib on the mechanisms and means of operation of the project. He also reviewed the models of smart and camouflaged mines removed by the project team. Deployed in 9 governorates of Yemen, as well as the methods of destroying these mines and their disposal to ensure a safe environment for all Yemenis.
UN consultant Charles Frisbie praised the role played by the Masam project in Yemen and its achievements over the years, as well as its great contribution to saving Yemeni citizens and clearing mines and remnants laid by the Houthi militia.
