BEIJING – Minister of Transport of Republika Srpska Nedelko Cubrilovic and General Manager of ŽRS Sladan Jovic talked today in Beijing with the management of China International Railway Corporation (CREC) and expressed interest in entering the market, Serbia’s participation in infrastructure projects, investments and support for the improvement and modernization of ŽRS.
Cubrilovic pointed out that the development of ŽRS is a strategic priority for Serbia, for the economy and for society in general, and that the rich experience of China National Railway in the development of railway transportation will make a significant contribution to improving the level of railway transportation in Serbia and the railway system of Republika Srpska.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications announced that the interlocutors expressed common interest in cooperation on the most important future projects and stated that China and Republika Srpska are continuously developing successful and friendly cooperation.
The press release stated that representatives of the China Railway Corporation briefed the Serbian delegation on the company’s capabilities, projects implemented in the region and activities under the Belt and Road Initiative, with a focus on the implementation of projects for the construction of the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway.
The meeting discussed the establishment of cooperation in the field of railway transport and the improvement of railway infrastructure in Republika Srpska.
In Beijing, Kubrilovich also talked with the management of CRRC Qiqihar Locomotive and Rolling Stock Co., Ltd. about the capacity renewal of the ŽRS workshop and the modernization of railway equipment. The company is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of railway transportation freight cars with the most complete product line and leading technology.
At the meeting, it was stated that both parties were determined to restore and revitalize the production capacity of the ŽRS workshop, and specific measures would be taken before the end of June, and a team of experts from CRRC and ŽRS would be formed. Through mutual cooperation, a state, model and appropriate solution acceptable to ŽRS would be established.
Last year, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Republika Srpska on increasing the production capacity of the ŽRS workshop, the announcement said.
