French Football Federation President Philippe Diallo expressed his strong support for Deschamps and hoped that Deschamps would stay until the end of his contract in 2026.

Speaking exclusively to L’Equipe minutes before his national team’s departure for Paris following their disappointing 2-1 elimination to Spain at Euro 2024, Diallo defended Didier Deschamps’ record despite ongoing criticism of the team’s style of play.

Diallo confirmed that Didier Deschamps is still the right man to lead the French team, although adjustments need to be made and certain aspects of his game improved: “We have confidence in Didier. He has proven in the past his ability to lead a team to major successes,” said the FFF president.

The decision to keep Deschamps on was made after France’s performance at the European Championships was deemed to have fallen short of expectations, sparking criticism over match tactics and selection choices. However, Diallo stressed that the French Football Federation’s confidence and support for Deschamps remains strong despite the disappointing outcome of the tournament.

In the coming weeks, the FFF and Didier Deschamps will have to work together to assess the team’s performance and plan the next steps for the 2026 World Cup, with the goal of restoring the form and dynamism that made the Les Bleus famous during the World Cup under the direction of their iconic coach.
