The two gunmen who killed businessman Surendra Vasanta Perera aka Club Vasanta at a tattoo parlour in Aturugiri have been identified.
Therefore, operations are currently underway to locate them.
On the 9th, officers from the Southern Crime Branch of Western Province and officers from the Kottawa and Athuragiriya police stations arrested seven suspects and handed them over to the Athuragiriya police station on charges of aiding and abetting the crime.
The arrested suspects, aged 24, 27, 28, 31 and 37, are residents of Ahungalla, Balapitiya, Ganemulla, Ambalangoda and Beliatta districts.
The arrested suspects include the owner of the business premises where the shooting took place, two suspects who brought the car used in the shooting from Ambalangida area to Atuligiria area, one suspect who stored the car inside the house before the crime and one suspect who fled in the car after the crime.
After the crime was committed, investigators seized the suspects’ escape car, a van with fake license plates, and the business premises owner’s cell phone. The current investigation revealed that the suspects all supported the above-mentioned criminal activities, which were carried out under the guidance of organized criminals from abroad.
Further investigation is being carried out by the Western Province South Crime Branch and Aturugiri police.
