Series of steps:
At the fourth regular session of the Latakia Provincial Council this year, service issues became the top proposal put forward by most members of the Latakia Provincial Council amid calls for improving the overall service situation.
Some council members stressed the need to find a radical solution to provide drinking water to users on time and coordinate with power companies, stressing that some areas in urban and rural areas suffer daily from frequent interruptions in drinking water.
Some interventions also pointed out the need to pave the main and secondary roads in the city, as well as many other streets in the province, since, as they mentioned, these streets are in a bad state due to excavations, as they have not been patched and asphalted for many years.
The Council members noted the need to provide gasoline and natural gas in “natural” form, with regard to which information was significantly delayed in the previous period, and noted the importance of providing these materials, especially gasoline, given the peak tourist season, while stressing the need to pay attention to the reality of cleanliness and garbage removal, especially garbage dumps, which are breeding grounds for diseases.
Chairman of the Latakia Governorate Council Taysir Habib stressed the need to continuously work on improving services in the governorate, considering serving citizens and meeting their needs to be one of the highest goals and priorities of the local administrative committee in achieving these goals.
Habib pointed out that the media plays an important role in monitoring the work of local councils, and local councils must give the media this role stipulated in the Local Administration Law, noting that most media provincial councils that report on the work of local councils convey the reality in a transparent manner and help convey the voice of citizens to local administrative bodies and solve their common concerns.
Regarding fuel, Habib pointed out that the allocation of petroleum derivatives in the governorate needs to be increased, especially in view of the tourist season, as the requests received have recently decreased by about half, noting that the tourist season witnesses an increase in citizens in the governorate and the need to provide materials to meet needs in this regard.
The Chairman of the Provincial Council also spoke about important proposals and the reports of the members of the Executive Office in charge of urban and rural councils in the field of building violations, emphasizing the implementation and strict prevention of Decree No. 40 of 2012. In fact, the Executive Office monitored several violations, including in the cities of Latakia and Islamta. Legal measures are being taken against violators.
Regarding water, Habib stressed the need for all concerned to work to improve the reality of drinking water and make it available to citizens in all locations, both in rural and urban areas, noting the importance of implementing and developing water projects to improve this vital service and improve the network according to capacity.
It is noteworthy that the Latakia Provincial Council, at its first inaugural meeting, recognized some of the written media for their contribution in clarifying the service issues in a completely transparent manner, especially in the content presented in the Council and in conveying the content of the meetings to the public.
