Baghdad: Zidane Rubai
Sources close to Mahmoud Al-Mawas, a Syrian professional in the Iraqi police team, said he expressed preliminary agreement to the contract offered to him by the Jansinra club with the aim of representing Iraq in its first football team next season.
The source confirmed that “the official announcement of the deal between the Al-Jazira club management and Mahmoud Al-Mawas will be made after the conclusion of the Iraqi Cup final between the Police team represented by Al-Mawas and the Air Force team, which will take place on Wednesday.”
It is worth noting that Mahmoud Mawas, a Syrian professional player who has played for the Iraqi Police Team for three consecutive seasons, also contributed to the team’s first three consecutive league titles in history. After winning the Perseverance Cup, in addition to finishing third in the last Arab competition held in Saudi Arabia last year, he also won the title of Iraqi League top scorer in his first season with the Police Team. After scoring 22 goals for the team, he is now second in the scorer list with 19 goals, 8 goals behind Air Force striker Ayman Hussein.
More than two months ago, Mawas announced that this season would be his last with the Iraqi police and that he was seeking another professional experience, possibly outside of Iraqi stadiums.
