Surinamese passenger arrested at Belem airport with 70 cocaine balls

On Tuesday, July 9, a traveler from Suriname was arrested at Brazil’s Belém International Airport with nearly 70 cocaine pellets hidden in his stomach.

The man arrived in the capital of Paraña from Paramaribo at around 5am local time and swallowed the pellets at a hotel in Belém while waiting for his next flight, which was due to fly to Guarulhos, Sao Paulo, at around 12:35pm.

The suspect was scheduled to fly from there to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport later that evening. He was detained after questioning.

According to Brazilian media reports, the smuggler had previously travelled to Roraima state, crossed the Guyana border on foot and then travelled to Suriname to work in the mining industry, where he was allegedly asked to transport drugs internationally.

The smuggler was from Sao Paulo and had just over 4 kilograms of cocaine on him. He had been hiding the drugs under her clothes.
