Aliv becomes head of CANTO

July 8, 2024 – Miami, FL – At the 39th CANTO Conference and Trade Show, The Honourable Philip Davis, Prime Minister of The Bahamas, laid out a bold vision for the digital future of The Bahamas and the Caribbean. He announced that The Bahamas will be the next host of CANTO 2025, underscoring the country’s commitment to leading the region’s digital revolution.
“The digital landscape is evolving rapidly, and The Bahamas is at the forefront, championing a future where technology improves the lives of all citizens,” said Prime Minister Davis. He highlighted the transformative power of digital platforms in government services and financial inclusion, and noted the successful launch of the world’s first central bank digital currency, the Sand Dollar.
Prime Minister Davis also spoke about the urgent need for strong global standards and regulatory frameworks for artificial intelligence (AI). He stressed: “As we stand on the brink of a future defined by AI, it is critical to establish controls to ensure that AI serves humanity in a safe, ethical and beneficial way. The uncontrolled growth of AI presents both opportunities and enormous challenges.”
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of digital literacy and announced significant investments in skills development. “Our vision includes a comprehensive digital transformation roadmap that reaches all Bahamians, regardless of their location or economic status. This will ensure that our workforce has the skills necessary to thrive in the digital economy,” said Davis.
Finally, he invited regional and global partners to collaborate on these initiatives to ensure that The Bahamas and the Caribbean are well positioned to navigate the complexities of the digital age.
