In Central Europe, The so-called nuclear race began. They are planning new blocks in the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary, and we are also planning nuclear blocks. Can it be said that Germany is experiencing a renaissance after its exit from nuclear power last year?

We believe that the nuclear renaissance has already begun as early as November 2023, with the European Parliament’s vote to include nuclear energy in the list of green technologies. Looking at individual countries, Poland has already signed a contract with Westinghouse for a new unit. In the Czech Republic, they are evaluating tenders for the fifth block in Dukovany, and we will soon know the outcome, whether it will be the French company EDF or the South Korean KHNP that wins the bid. In Hungary, the situation is more complicated due to the war in Ukraine, and developments are difficult to predict. As for Slovakia, there are ambitions for new construction. These ambitions are also supported by the start-up of the third block in Mochovce, and the fourth block will await us in about two years.

For example, the Germans have huge wind resources in the north, but the biggest problem is the distribution of energy. Therefore, they now have to spend a lot of money to modernize the infrastructure to be able to transport energy to the south. We believe that Austria will not be able to meet its energy needs without nuclear energy, such as from the Czech Republic. Every country should have a reasonable energy structure. You can’t completely eliminate core resources and have only renewable resources.

How does a nuclear resource tender work? Do we have to wait until the winner is announced before negotiating with the winner?

PPA Energo mainly works as a subcontractor for large technology suppliers. Our main business is the production of electrical systems, automation, measurement and regulation, and low-voltage switchboards. But in the case of Slovenské elektrárňa, we have a direct contract with the investor. About Dukovany No. 5 Tender, So we don’t wait for the results, but actively do business. For the two bidders, EDF and KHNP, the Czech Republic is a relatively new region, which is why they have been trying to establish their supply chain here for a long time…
