Photo: Thick black smoke hung over Middle Road in Garapan late Monday afternoon, along with a burning smell, alerting commuters and residents that the fire originated in Navy Hill. Fire and Emergency Medical Services and Department of Public Safety personnel responded to the fire, which is located next to Blue Hill Apartments. Police blocked off roads leading into the area for safety reasons and to allow access for fire trucks and emergency vehicles. Witnesses told Variety that the fire was caused by burning trash. Assistant Police Chief Simon Manacop, acting public information officer for DPS, described it as a “brush and trash fire.” According to DFEMS, at approximately 3:327 p.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024, “a male caller reported a trash fire near Blue Hill Apartments in Navy Hill.”
