Due to its importance and its impact on social security, the UAE attaches great importance to the health sector, attracting leading local and international experts, including doctors, nurses and technicians, who work around the clock to provide the best services.
On the occasion of International Nurses Day on May 12, Al Khaleej met with a group of health sector workers to hear their stories of working on the front lines, providing care to patients and enhancing the health of the community.
Shahida Al-Dhanhani, registered nurse at Healthpoint, said: “International Nurses Day recognises the hard work and sacrifices made by frontline heroes to advance the health of their communities. We work hard to uphold the World Health Organisation’s goals around the world and in all settings, and we thank our patients for the trust they place in us to provide care and support to safeguard their health.”
Jessymine David, Pre-Op/Operating Room Nurse at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, confirms: “Ten years ago, as a nurse at Cleveland Clinic, I realised that nursing is a commitment to unbridled compassion and care, and for international nurses today, we celebrate strength and unwavering dedication…Nurses around the world enjoy this strength, and being a nurse means providing hope in moments of despair, being a pillar of strength while patients wait to know the status of their health status, and a source of comfort in the face of suffering. The privilege of caring for others presents real challenges, from staffing shortages to ever-changing medical complexities, but despite this, nurses strive to do their part, driven by their passion to deliver healing and improve healthcare delivery. I look forward to a bright future for the nursing profession in the UAE. I look forward to a future where male and female nurses play an even greater role in achieving positive outcomes for all.”
“As Gene Watson once said, ‘Caring is the essence of nursing’,” said Mona Celine Frannie, registered nurse at Imperial College London’s Diabetes Centre. “We celebrate this day around the world and value the efforts they make to help. Great healthcare is known for their wisdom. These qualities support our nursing colleagues in providing excellent and dedicated care to all patients, through whatever challenges they face.”
Iman Ittimayza, a registered nurse at Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women and Children, added: “On this day, let us all celebrate the important role and tremendous efforts of nursing teams around the world, and express our sincere thoughts and wishes for the health and well-being of all patients. When I worked in the NICU, I was passionate about providing medical and moral support to pediatric patients and their families, and constantly strived to maintain the highest standards of excellence in all aspects of the healthcare services I provided.”
