Entrepreneurship: One hundred young women trained for digital careers

On Tuesday, June 29, the MTN Congo Foundation officially launched in Brazzaville the training of 100 young women in office automation and computer graphics. The launch of the six-month “One Woman, One Qualification” program was hosted by Prisca Lomouel, Interim General Manager of MTN Congo. Inès Nefer Bertille Ingani, Minister in charge of the Advancement of Women and Women in Development, and Léon Juste Ibombo, Minister in charge of Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy, attended the event. The training was provided by the Congolese Technical Training Center.
MTN Interim General Manager believes that “as a civil company, MTN Congo is keen to support the Congolese government in advancing the social projects of the Congolese Head of State”. For her, women’s empowerment is one of the priorities of the Sustainable Development Goals and a major economic issue for Congolese society. It is with this in mind that the “One Project, One Woman, One Qualification” initiative was set up to help close the skills gap and thus provide women and men with the same employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
The announcement of this training, initially planned only for Brazzaville but then to be rolled out nationwide, has generated real enthusiasm. In three days, MTN Congo received 5,800 applications (CVs). This “signals a strong desire among Congolese women to learn and enhance their skills”, Prisca Lomouel stressed. After a pre-selection, 1,000 women were received and heard by the MTN team, 100 of whom were chosen to spearhead the project.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude: “We are very happy that the MTN Congo Foundation has provided us with this opportunity to complement our skills. This is a great opportunity because it has extended a generous helping hand to us when we least expected it.”
For Minister Inès Nefer Bertille Ingani, “this training contributes to improving the situation of women”. “We are closing the gender gap in digital technologies”, assures Léon Juste Ibombo, the minister who initiated the training.
