Independent opposition MPs expressed disappointment over the reduction of parliamentary speaking time from 20 minutes to 15 minutes and the shortening of parliamentary sittings from two weeks to one week.

Responding to the state budget for 2024-2025 in Parliament, Kumar said that the speaking time and number of speakers on key motions have decreased in the past 18 months.

“This is not democracy, Mr. Speaker.”

“The House belongs to the people and they should be given adequate time to discuss and examine important issues that affect them,” she said.
