Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni has announced that team captain Lionel Messi will be ready to play in the 2024 Copa America semi-final against Canada in New Jersey today despite concerns about the striker’s hamstring muscle injury.
Messi missed the final group stage match due to injury but returned to action in Argentina’s quarter-final win over Ecuador last Thursday.
He played the entire match but looked unwell, as the Inter Miami player (37) missed the penalty in the shootout that decided the second meeting between Argentina and Canada at the NRG Stadium, after the opening match of Group A, in which the defending champions defeated Canada (2-0).
