SANTO DOMINGO – Continuing with the work designated by decree, the commission appointed by the Executive Branch to oversee the use of funds from the concession contract for the Dominican International Airport carried out on site an inspection of the work being carried out on road solutions in the area around the Plaza de la Bandera roundabout in the capital, also involving the Isabel Aguilar elevated road and part of the 6 de Noviembre highway.

The purpose of the above committee is to obtain timely and detailed information from the company performing the work, including the work schedule, final design, and progress of the work.

The Commission is chaired by Ricardo Canalda Carvajal and includes as members Julio Suero Marranzini, Circe Almánzar Melgen, Secilio Espinal Espinal and Persio Maldonado Sánchez. It was incorporated by Decree No. 70-24 issued by President Luis Abinader.

During the inspection of the land where the works were being carried out, the commissioners asked for information and basic details about the projects, asked questions and expressed different concerns to the engineers in charge of the works, and met and spoke with them extensively.

For their part, the representatives of the construction companies responded satisfactorily to the Committee’s concerns and provided the significant and important data requested by the Committee.

In particular, the committee is interested in understanding the status of execution of the works, the final design and its feasibility for the road solution pursued in the project.

The main goal of this infrastructure is to be able to redistribute vehicle traffic around the city, where uncomfortable traffic jams often occur.

One of the important aspects reported to the committee was the ongoing final drainage works for the works which will form an integral part of its development.

They announced that additional works will be carried out in September this year (2024).

The engineer on behalf of the construction company ensures that all plans and adjustments required by the site plan will be carried out on time to avoid delays in execution.

He admitted that the rains that had hit Greater Santo Domingo in recent days had delayed the progress of some works as expected, but he assured that the lost time would be made up.

“We plan to make the interconnection 100 per cent complete by the end of the first week of next month. “So that we can arrange to start piling,” said an engineer who is working with the commissioners on the renovation.

The committee reported that it would periodically visit the above-mentioned efforts to follow up on their implementation and development.
