Libreville, Monday, July 8, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – The Transitional President, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, actively participated in the International Conference on Afforestation and Reforestation (CIAR), held from July 2 to 5 in Brazzaville, Congo.

The afforestation and reforestation conference, held under the auspices of the African Union (AU), the United Nations Forum on Forests and the African Forestry Forum, is a follow-up to the Three Forest Basins Summit organized by the Republic of Congo in October 2023.

During the COP27 summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, the President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, in his capacity as Chairman of the Congo Basin Commission, reiterated the strong will and determination of the Democratic Republic of Congo to take positive action and participate in the global efforts to combat climate change.

In his sideline speech, General Brice Clotaire Origi Nguema reiterated the country’s commitment to the planet and, if it must be remembered, his presence at the summit is a testament to the role that Gabon plays in protecting forest ecosystems.

Furthermore, during COP28, which will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from November 30 to December 12, 2023, the Gabonese Head of State reaffirmed Gabon’s strong commitment to environmental protection.

In addition, he congratulated Congolese Foreign Minister Denis Sassou Nguesso for his commitment to action to protect our living environment and called on the international community to firmly oppose the destruction of forests, then recalled Gabon’s position in the region. Even worse, General Blaise Clotaire Olgie Nguema urged countries to respect their obligations in forest protection.

At the end of this CIAR, several resolutions were adopted, including the determination of countries to work together to achieve a sustainable future, so that forests, as the lungs of the Earth, continue to support the life and well-being of all species, and the adoption of a resolution by the 79th United Nations General Assembly to formally approve the Decade of Afforestation and Reforestation in Africa and around the world, as well as the institutionalization of CIAR by the General Assembly through its biennial organization, which rotates from one continent to another.

Please note that this conference has over 1,500 delegates.
