(CNS): A ship named walrus The double-hulled tanker ran aground on the east coast of Cayman Brac on Saturday afternoon, damaging both the vessel and the coral reef. Officials said the tanker was delivering diesel to the island when the disaster occurred. On Sunday evening, there were reports that the double-hulled tanker had not leaked fuel, but it was being closely monitored.
The Cayman Islands Coast Guard, the Cayman Islands Maritime Authority and the Department of Environment were all involved in the survey to determine the extent of the damage to the vessel and the reef.
Although the tanker has reportedly been released, it remains detained pending interviews with the captain and crew. Officials said that as the investigation is still ongoing, more details will be released when possible.
