Eurozone investor sentiment deteriorated more than expected this month, ending eight straight months of improvement, a Reuters report revealed.
The Sentix Institute’s investor confidence index for the euro zone economy fell to -7.3 points in July from 0.3 points in June, pushing the index back into the red. Analysts expected the index to fall to just 0.0 points.
Sentix said the expectations index fell to 1.5 points from 10 in June, which will be worrying for forecasters. “The current recovery in the European economy has come to an abrupt end,” The institute’s report points this out.
Investors are concerned about uncertainty surrounding the French election or the U.S. presidential election at the end of this year. Investor confidence in Germany, Europe’s largest economy, fell to -32.3 points in July from -26.3 points in June. The decline came after three months of growth.
