Illegal foreign cigarettes found near port gate – Sri Lanka Mirror – Right to Information. Power for Change

A 43-year-old Maradana resident was detained near the Port City gate for carrying illegal foreign cigarettes.

The suspect, who was carrying about 3,000 foreign cigarettes, was arrested today (July 6, 2024) during a joint search operation conducted by the Navy and the Colombo Central Division Crime Detective Bureau near the Port City Gate.

The suspect has been detained and handed over to the Fort Police Station along with the illegal foreign cigarettes for further legal action.

The operation was coordinated and led by the Sri Lanka Naval Ship Rangalla (SLNS Rangalla) attached to the Western Naval Command and the Central Divisional Crime Detective Bureau in Colombo. During the raid, the authorities spotted a suspicious person and during the subsequent search, they found the stock of cigarettes ready for sale.
