Earlier today, an Icelandair plane malfunctioned after a bird flew into the plane’s engine as it landed in Alicante, Spain.

The plane was due to fly back to Iceland tonight with passengers and was scheduled to arrive home around 3:30am.

Icelandair information officer Guðni Sigurðsson said that after inspection, inspectors determined that the plane was not fit to fly and that spare parts were needed for the aircraft.

“Unfortunately, there were no spare parts available,” Guðni said.

He said he was looking for another plane to take the passengers to Iceland tomorrow. The passengers were assigned to hotels and were waiting to receive information about the departure time tomorrow.
