As a nation with diverse cultures and traditions, our most important task is to continue to promote a spirit of unity and embrace diverse values and principles. We must continue to foster a culture of mutual respect and tolerance.
Hello my fellow Solomon Islanders, men, women, boys, girls and all our friends.
On this 46th anniversary of independence, let me extend my congratulations to the people of Ontong Java in the north, Rennell Island in the south, the Shortland Islands in the west and Tikopia Island in the east. I extend my warm greetings to you on this 46th anniversary of our nation.
As a nation, we have been through tough times recently. The COVID-19 pandemic and the November 2021 riots tested our resolve as a nation. Each time we have faced these challenges, our resilience as a people has prevailed. We have also exercised our rights to elect our representatives in recent national elections, and the results were respected and accepted by all. The elections, including the election of the Prime Minister, were successful and peaceful.
My fellow Solomon Islanders, I want to thank our bilateral and multilateral partners for standing with us in times of challenge. As we celebrate our 46th anniversary of independence, we must continue to demonstrate perseverance, solidarity and genuine cooperation. We need to work with all in the true spirit of “friend to all and enemy to none”.
As a nation with diverse cultures and traditions, our most important task is to continue to promote a spirit of unity and embrace diverse values and principles. We must continue to foster a culture of mutual respect and tolerance.
This year’s theme, “Planning Together Our United and Transformed Future”, is in line with the Government of National Unity and Transformation’s (GNUT) aspiration to engage in transformative development that unites our nation while promoting peace, tranquility and compassion.
The Government cannot drive forward its policy ambitions alone, it must have the cooperation and support of every Solomon Islander. I therefore humbly ask you all to continue to play your part and support our dear Government and people of Solomon Islands. Together we can transform our country and achieve the future we all want.
But most importantly, we must continue to be grateful for the guidance of our Heavenly Father, who has stood with us since we gained our independence and will continue to do so as we chart our future course.
Our Heavenly Father is the God of the universe and the God of the Solomon Islands. I am willing to dedicate our country and our people to God. Because without him, we are nothing.
My fellow Solomon Islands people, through Christ who strengthens us, we can do all things.
We are one people, one nation, we are all Solomon Islanders.
May God bless all of the Solomon Islands.
