Netherlands dismisses fight with Turkey – ZimEye

Türkiye gave everything it had, but this time it was not enough.

Samet Akaydin deservedly took the lead in the first half, heading the ball into the net from a beautiful cross from Arda Güler on the right, which was the assist of the month.

They nearly went two goals ahead but Wout Weghorst blocked Kaan Ayhan’s shot from six yards. Then they tired.

Weghorst then forced a corner and Stefan De Vrij equalised before Mert Müldür stopped Cody Gakpo from connecting on a dangerous cross from Denzel Dumfries but headed the ball into the net himself.

Turkey had chances to equalise, with Bart Verbruggen saving a close-range shot from Semi Kilicsoy in the dying seconds, but they were unable to add to the scoreline.

They lit up this tournament with some fantastic football and on any other day, perhaps the game would have gone their way.

But the Netherlands fought back in the second half to beat England in the semi-finals. Even better than Turkey vs. Austria? Maybe. Maybe!
