Learn shepherding skills on a farm in Northern Ireland

Four generations of sheep farmers, each more determined than ever to protect the stunning surrounding scenery, the James family now offer visitors the chance to experience mountain farming.

Stand beside James in the fields and watch him herd the sheep with his trained working dogs by whistling, whispering or hand gestures. Help him open the gates and lead the sheep into the traditional wooden enclosures, then take shelter in the viewing gallery built from Donegal quartzite to enjoy the panoramic views of Slievegalion, Lough Neagh and the Mourne Mountains.

“I didn’t realize how different my life was until the farm welcomed its first guests, a family from the United States. They really enjoyed watching me interact with the sheepdogs, especially when I taught them how to communicate, standing between the sky and the earth, watching the sheep running across the field,” James said.

Relive the past at Titanic Experience Cobh, County Cork

Belfast Northern Ireland may be home to the Titanic, but you can also visit cork and visit the Titanic’s last port of call before it set out on its final, tragic journey.

Titanic Experience Cobh is a unique guided tour located in the historic White Star Line building – where the last passengers of the Titanic departed.

A selection of artifacts are on display, including personal items from the Odell family collection, original White Star Line tableware, and rare audio interviews with surviving passengers.

On arrival you will receive a boarding pass. It will contain the details of one of the 123 passengers who came to the White Star Line ticket office on April 11, 1912. At the end of the tour, check the information screen to learn the fate of the passenger.

Listen to the rhythms of ancient Irish music in County Galway

The bodhran (pronounced bow-rawn) is one of Ireland’s oldest musical instruments. Considered the “pulse of Irish music,” this unique hand drum is made using traditional methods, stretching treated goat hide over a birch frame.

There are regular talks and demonstrations on bodhrán drums, and you can take home your own bodhrán drum, adorned with hand-painted colourful designs and, if requested, your family crest.
