Minister Buckingham is joined by Ms Lindsay Buckingham, Minister Counsellor at the Australian High Commission and Ms Hellen Ha’apisi, Human Resources Manager at the Solomon Islands Department of Customs and Excise.
Minister for Public Service John Tuhaika Jnr and Australian High Commissioner Lindsay Buckingham launched the Women of Influence publication series with four outstanding senior female public servants who have made significant contributions to the Solomon Islands public service and national development.
In the series, Permanent Secretary Susan Sulu, Deputy Secretaries Margaret Moveni and Linda Wate, and Human Resources Manager Hellen Ha’apisi share their diverse backgrounds and career paths in public service.
Their stories showcase their journeys, drives, sacrifices and challenges overcome, hoping to inspire and encourage young people, especially young women and girls, to see themselves as future leaders.
Speaking at the event, Honourable Tuhaika said he wanted to recognise outstanding women serving in various fields of public service.
“Their leadership, commitment and dedication are vital to maintaining a strong public service that is accountable, responsive and inclusive to all Solomon Islanders.”
“I hope that through our partnership with Australia we will inspire capable women and men to join the public service and contribute to building our nation.”
Minister Counsellor Lindsay Buckingham said Solomon Islands and Australia were proud long-term partners in building a strong public service in Solomon Islands.
“Through this series, we highlight and celebrate the contributions and leadership of women in the public service – from developing policy to delivering critical services, women in the public service play a vital role in delivering good governance to the Solomon Islands community.”
Produced by the Solomon Islands-Australia Governance Partnership, the series is the first in a series of profiles highlighting the contribution of Solomon Islands women and men to public service.
