The Ministry of Food recently ordered a farmer in the Northwest to hand over a ram to the Swedish Food Agency for investigation into the spread of scrapie, according to the Mast website. He was believed to have come into contact with sheep with scabies and was therefore a possible carrier.
This was discovered in the spring of 2023 when an infection was traced after a case of rubella was found in the Miðfjörður room. The only way to find out was to autopsy and examine the ram’s brain tissue. So the farmer had to hand over the ram, whether he wanted to or not.
