Extrovert, urban style, economical choice, but at the same time not the most affordable. Toyota brings to Slovakia the second generation of its popular crossover C-HR, which in the new version boasts not only hybrid, but also plug-in hybrid technology. While we will test the hot plug-in novelty in the editorial office in the second half of the summer, we have already covered several hundred kilometers with the conventional “carefree” hybrid.
For some solutions it builds on its predecessor, and for others it rises to a significantly higher level. However, at first glance it seems very beautiful and at the same time, traditionally a Toyota model, an economical choice for young people. But is the focus of the news just that simple? Can it serve as a universal vehicle for a small family? And what about the legendary frugality?
We discovered all this during our editorial test, where the company gave us the C-HR Hybrid version with all-wheel drive and Executive Premiere Edition equipment. It tops the hierarchy of the Japanese product, followed closely by the dynamic-oriented GR Sport Premiere Edition. However, both versions are dedicated to the first deliveries, so they will offer a little more than the classic Executive and GR Sport grades. Beyond them, there are basic levels of comfort and style.
More elegant design
In the previous generation, customers could enjoy truly bold body curves, which were complemented to some extent by the crossover coupe style with a roof that slopes towards the rear. The overall exterior solution is based on the brand’s current new design language, which was started with the Prius model.
For some, over-composed shapes and highly futuristic style, for others, the ideal shape of a stylish urban crossover. In any case, aerodynamics also have a say here – after all, the novelty has an air drag coefficient of only 0.318, which is a great value for a given class.
