Libreville, Friday, July 5, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – The head of the Transitional Government, Mr. Raymond Ndong Sima, accompanied by the Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Jeannot Kalima, and the Minister of Environment, Climate and Homeland and Animal Coexistence, Ms. Svetlana Minguengui Ndomba, visited last Thursday the Alenakiri Thermal Power Plant in the commune of Owendo.
The Alenakiri thermal power plant, built by the Israeli company Telemania, was inaugurated on August 15, 2013, with a target final output of 70 megawatts to significantly reduce Libreville’s energy shortage, with half of the plant’s output destined for the Nkok Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
So, eleven years later, the Prime Minister returned to the city to gain a deeper understanding of the city’s evolving situation and he saw the need to explore various improvements to provide profitable service to the strong customer demand.
Raymond Ndong Sima visited the owners and paid special attention to the working conditions of the employees of the Heritage Company, especially in terms of safety at the public garbage dump located a few meters away from the power plant, and then condemned the situation as it puts human lives at risk.
On behalf of Heritage 1, Deputy General Manager, Mr. Stephane Minko, assured the Prime Minister and his entourage of the company’s ability to work tirelessly to provide better services to the people, especially to restart certain machines that have been out of order so far, and therefore requested financial support from the government to overcome certain problems that hinder the optimal functioning of the company’s various services.
Remember when Raymond Ndong Sima went to the Alenakiri thermal power station to see how this structure, which remains one of the main strategic points for the production and supply of electricity, could better serve the greater Libreville region, which faces recurring power outages. There he saw first-hand the difficulties that the company’s employees face every day.
