By the middle of last month, the Japanese government had abolished all 1,034 regulations requiring the use of floppy disks when sending data; the only area that still requires the use of floppy disks is the environmental system that monitors vehicle recycling.

Sony of Japan stopped producing floppy disks in 2011. Taro KonoSocial PlatformX(formerly known as Twitter) said that at that time, about 1,900 government procedures in Japan still required the use of disks and other outdated technologies such as fax machines and compact disks (CDs). Two years later, it finally announced victory in the “disk war.”

Vehicle recovery systems excluded
