Rummenigge confirms Kompany deal: ‘Guardiola helped us’

Bayern Munich have found a new coach in Vincent Kompany, supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has now confirmed. He also revealed that Pep Guardiola had been consulted.

Even though it’s been an open secret for a few days… Vincent Kompany Bayern Munich are set to replace Thomas Tuchel as head coach after a long journey, but the club has yet to make any official announcement. Ralf Rangnick’s recent surprising rejection of sporting director Max Eberl left a sting too deep.

So, on Tuesday, supervisory board member and former CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed the deal and revealed the details. “Our board has chosen Vincent Kompany as the new head coach. We are finalising the final details and will then make it official,” Rummenigge told the broadcaster. Sky Alitalia.

Rummenigge also reported that Bayern Munich listened to the Manchester City coach’s advice Pep Guardiolahis contract in Munich is for three years. “Guardiola also helped us and Kompany, he spoke highly of Vincent as a talented coach. Guardiola knows Vincent very well and his opinion is valuable,” the 68-year-old continued. As of 2019, Kompany played for a total of three years under coach Guardiola.

Bayern would need to pay a rumored transfer fee of 10-12 million euros, as Kompany’s contract at Burnley runs until 2028. In Munich, he should receive a contract until 2027. Tuchel’s current contract remains on the record champions’ wage bill until 2025.

Bayern will be only the third coaching position for the former Hamburg defender. Kompany initially worked as a player-coach at RSC Anderlecht after leaving Manchester City in 2019. Two years ago, he took over Burnley FC and won promotion to the Premier League before being relegated again this season.
